Eunice, NM Man Dies In Weekend Crash

LEA COUNTY, NM -- A Eunice, NM man is killed in a crash in Lea County.

    The fatal crash happened around 7 AM on January 13th along NM 248, just north of Eunice.

    New Mexico State Police say that Felix Covarrubias-Marcado was heading south of NM 248 in a 2004 Ford Mustang when he drifted off the road to the right and crashed into a fence that was made of tree posts.

    Covarrubias-Mercado, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Police say Covarrubias-Mercado wasn't wearing a seat belt.

    Police also say that the front of the Mustang suffered serve damage in the crash.

    Police haven't determined if alcohol was a contributing factor in the fatal crash.
