FORT STOCKTON -- The city of Fort Stockton has rescinded a motion to award a contract to drill a test well in the Capitan Reef Aquifer, after finding out the company they awarded it to couldn't work in Texas.

The Fort Stockton Pioneer reports that Fort Stockton had to rescind a December 10th motion to award the Capitan Reef test well project to Boart Longyear.

The offer was rescinded after Fort Stockton officials found that the Utah company wasn't eligible to do business in Texas.

Now, Sugar Land based Hydro Resources -- which had the second lowest bid -- will get the contract to drill the test well.

Both Fort Stockton and Odessa leaders have been funding the project to drill for brackish water in the Capitan Reef Aquifer, which is located under Pecos and Reeves counties.

If the brackish material can be cleaned into potable water and infrastructure can be built, the well could be a new source of water for both cities.
