JEFF DAVIS COUNTY -- A longtime Alpine attorney is killed in a roll over crash in Jeff Davis County.

The crash happened around 4:55 PM on January 16th along TX 17, about 17.8 miles north of Fort Davis.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers say that Malcom James "Mike" Barclay was heading south on TX 17 in a 1997 Chevrolet C2500 pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle as it went around a curve.

Barclay, 83, reportedly overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel into the northbound lane and roll over several times.

The pickup truck eventually crashed through a fence and landed on its passenger side while facing west.

Barclay was then pronounced dead at the scene.

Barclay -- an Alpine resident -- had been an attorney for more than 50 years.

Barclay once said in an interview that he started practicing law when Dwight D. Eisenhower was the U.S. President.
