Mexican National Convicted For Causing Double Fatal Glasscock County Crash

BIG SPRING -- A Howard County jury has convicted an 18-wheeler driver for causing a fatal Glasscock County crash.
KBYG Radio in Big Spring reports that jurors found Ruben Montes-Garces guilty of two counts of criminally negligent homicide on January 16th.
Montes-Garces, 41, ran a stop sign at the intersection of F.M. 2401 and F.M. 1357 in Glasscock County around 5:30 PM on July 3rd.
Montes-Garces' belly dump truck then smashed into a pickup truck in the intersection.
Glasscock County Sheriff Keith Burnett told Big 2 that the impact was so powerful, the pickup truck was pushed underneath the 18-wheeler.
Two people in the pickup truck -- 18-year-old Jacob Power and 28-year-old Bryan McBride -- were killed in the crash.
Glasscock County Sheriff's deputies said that Montes-Garces was "test driving" the big-rig, to possibly purchase it, when the crash occurred
Burnett originally said that Garces was a Mexican National who didn't have a driver's license -- although Texas Department of Public Safety Officials later told Big 2 that Garces has a Mexican Commercial Drivers License.
The Mexican C.D.L. is also valid in Texas.
Montes-Garces is expected to be sentenced on January 30th.
