Federal authorities have joined other law enforcement looking into death threats made against a freshman U.S. Congressman and his family.

Police are taking threats targeting Representative Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma very seriously.

Investigators say precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of Mullin's wife and children as well.

The G-O-P Congressman's chief of staff has not specified the nature of the threats or the potential motivation behind them.

Oklahoma voters elected Mullin with 57-percent of the vote in November.

He was sworn into office January 3rd.

He's cast only a few votes so far including voting "no" on emergency funding for states hit by Superstorm Sandy.
