Carlsbad Police say that someone fired several gunshots into the front of homes in the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Carver Street around 3:50 AM on Monday.
Officers say that bullets broke windows and the front doors of a home in the 2600 block of Carver Street, and they rushed to the scene to investigate.
However, when officers arrived on scene, they heard gunshots from up the road.
Moments later, officers pulled over a vehicle that was speeding down the road.
Police discovered that the driver was speeding in order to bring his young niece to the hospital.
The girl -- 6-year-old Emma Hernandez -- had reportedly been shot in the forearm during the shooting in the 2700 block of Carver Street.
E.M.S. crews rushed to the scene and took Hernandez to Carlsbad Medical Center, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
No one else was injured in the shootings.
Police continue to investigate the incident, but they say that no suspects have been named.
Anyone with information on the incident should call Carlsbad Police at (575) 885-2111.
