More Than 700 Pounds Of Marijuana Seized At Sierra Blanca Checkpoint

SIERRA BLANCA -- Big Bend Sector Border Patrol agents seize more than 700 pounds of marijuana hidden inside an 18-wheeler in West Texas.
The bust happened at the Sierra Blanca checkpoint on Interstate 10 on the evening of January 29th.
Border Patrol agents were inspecting a Freightliner when a canine alerted them to the presence of illegal drugs toward the back of the trailer.
Agents found 714 pounds of marijuana hidden inside 4 tires in the trailer.
The drugs reportedly had a street value of $571,200.
Agents turned over the 18-wheeler and the drugs to the Drug Enforcement Administration's El Paso Field Office for further investigation.
The truck driver -- a 40-year-old from Dumas -- was also taken into custody.
