MIDLAND--Even though most people have never met him, through social media sites and news broadcasts, people have gotten to know Cody Hollums' amazing story of recovery.
The 28-year-old professional bullfighter was put in a coma for weeks after a bull struck him in the head a bullfighting event in Lufkin.
Hollums was lucky to be alive, and spent months in a hospital in Tyler and Lubbock.
"That doctor told me I spent eight of my nine lives" says Hollums.
Coming close to death has made Hollums appreciate his friends and family that much more.
Hollums met his girlfriend Britney at his cousin's wedding, and they've been dating for almost 5 years and she never left his bedside. Hollums says "she never left from Tyler to Lubbock she stayed with me the whole time which was nice because she was a big help".
Britney created a Facebook page the week of Hollums accident and it has 11,666 likes as of Thursday afternoon.
"For all the people who were supportive during that time, thank you" says Hollums about all of the people who've been helping him through his journey.
Hollums is still working on getting back to his old self, going to physical rehabilitation twice a week in Midland.
As far as bullfighting in his future, Hollums says "I don't think I can, if I don't have that desire and that want to like I used to then I won't do it".
