President Obama will receive a high honor when he visits Israel next month.

Israeli President Shimon Peres' office announced Monday he will award President Obama the 'Presidential Medal of Distinction'.

Mr. Obama will be the first sitting U.S. president to receive the award.

News of the award comes after a few rocky years between the Obama administration and Benjamin Netanyahu.

Tension began when the president pushed for a comprehensive freeze of Israeli settlements during his first term.

It won't be the first time the two presidents have exchanged awards - as Obama delivered the 'Presidential Medal of Freedom' to Peres last year.
