AUSTIN -- Ector County Sheriff Mark Donaldson met with Texas Legislators in Austin earlier this week.

Donaldson was in the Texas State Capitol on February 19th for Sheriff's Association of Texas Day.

The day provides a change for association members to meet with legislators and discuss issues that could affect law enforcement agencies.

Donaldson and others are pushing legislators to remove several people from county jails.

Donaldson mentioned that mentally ill people in particular are being locked up because there's nowhere else for them to stay.

"Get those people out of our jail, where they don't belong," Donaldson told Big 2, "They need to be in treatment centers and not in jails."

Legislators are also focusing on cases where Texas state inmates are being held in county jails due to technicalities.
