ODESSA -- An Ector County I.S.D. student is facing criminal charges for allegedly bringing a handgun to school.

E.C.I.S.D officials say that a teacher at Nimitz Junior High got a student CrimeStoppers tip around 1:15 PM Wednesday.

The teacher told a campus police officer about the tip -- which indicated that a 15-year-old boy at the school might have brought a weapon to school.

E.C.I.S.D. Police and school administrators subsequently found an unloaded 9 mm handgun in the students backpack.

The backpack was reportedly located in the student's locker at the time of the discovery, and no ammunition was found in the area.

E.C.I.S.D. Police don't believe that Nimitz Junior High Students were ever in danger, and the school day wasn't interrupted in any way.

The student will now face criminal charges and discipline from the district.
