MIDLAND -- More crashes have been occurring on Midland roads.

The City of Midland's traffic division released the statistics of its 2012 traffic accident report on Monday.

The statistics show that accidents increased 13.5 percent between 2011 and 2012.

A total of 3,279 accidents were reported in 2011, while 3,723 crashes were reported in 2012.

The number of dangerous intersection in the Tall City also spiked between 2011 and 2012.

A total of 29 intersections saw 7 or more accidents in 2012, while only 25 intersections saw that many accidents in 2011.

The number of fatal crashes in the Tall City's borders nearly tripled between 2011 and 2012.

There were only 6 fatal crashes in Midland in 2011, but there were 16 fatal wrecks in 2012.

Meanwhile, the number of injuries from crashes decreased from 1,160 in 2011 to 1,100 in 2012.

The number of drug or alcohol related crashes also dipped from 292 in 2011 to 188 in 2012.

Meanwhile, traffic volume increased about 10.07 percent on average in Midland between 2011 and 2012.

The 2012 traffic accident report states that the increase in volume on Tall City roadways could have led to the increase in accidents.

The results of the traffic accident report will be presented at the Midland City Council meeting on February 26th.

Midland officials will continue to study and monitor all intersections listed in the traffic accident report.

Officials will also make all necessary changes to intersections.
