MIDLAND -- Half a dozen soldiers are in the Permian Basin for an all-expenses paid fishing trip.

The 6 soldiers arrived to the Midland International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

The soldiers will be treated to a weekend of fun and relaxation, thanks to the non-profit Real Thanx.

The soldiers will take part in a sporting clay shoot on March 7th, and they'll be taken to Lake Amistad on March 8th for a weekend of fishing.

This marks the 21st group of soldiers Real Thanx has flown in to West Texas.

Organizers say the trips wouldn't be possible without the generous support of West Texans.

"Everybody pitches in and helps us," Alan Means of Reel Thanx told Big 2. "They really honor these guys and we're just proud to be here. I've always said: The Permian Basin is an ugly place but beautiful people."

Real Thanx treats a group of 6 soldiers 4 times a year.

Including this group, Reel Thanx has given 186 soldiers a West Texas weekend of fun and relaxation.
