"Child of This Land" is his fourth studio album. It was recorded and produced at Cash Cabin Studios in Hendersonville, Tennessee, a recording studio owned by John Carter Cash, the only son of Johnny Cash and June Carter. The story of how Eckert came to record at Cash Cabin is found in the CD, on the panel titled "Prodigal Nation: An Amazing Odyssey."
The album features duets with John Carter Cash, Marty Stuart, and Sarah Peasall McGuffey. It also features two songs by Eckert's older daughter, Lindsey Eckert, a junior at Permian High School. Eckert's younger daughter, Lauren, a 7th grader at Bonham in Odessa, also sings on the album. One song, "Bloodstains in the Snow,"is a tribute to the Plains Indians. It features Grammy-winning Native American flautist Bill Miller, who plays flute and chants. Eckert's previous album, "The Badman," was a western concept album recorded at Willie Nelson's personal studio in Luck, Texas. It was released in 2008.
"Child of This Land" features a diversity of songs, from funny story songs, to sad ballads, lost love tunes, and gospel songs. The album is for sale at TJ Rabbit's, located in the Santa Fe Square on 42nd Street in Odessa, Texas, a music store devoted to Texas music and owned and operated by my good friends Robert and Diane Cobos.
Ron Eckert was born and raised in Odessa, Texas.
