The fatal crash occurred about 9 miles north of TX 17 around 1:25 PM on March 11th.
According to The Big Bend Sentinel, Barker, 12, was a passenger in a vehicle that was heading south of TX 17 when it veered into the shoulder.
The driver -- Hector Keagan Roman of Pecos -- reportedly overcorrected, and the vehicle smashed into the side of a mountain.
Barker -- who hailed from Balmorhea -- was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:17 PM by Jeff Davis County Justice of the Peace Fred Granado.
Troopers say Barker wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Roman, 22, and his Balmorhea-based passengers -- 5-year-old Cloe Barker, 10-year-old Elena Barker and 23-year-old Ashley Nicole Barker -- were all treated and released from Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine after the wreck.
Everyone besides Scott Barker that were in the vehicle were wearing their seat belts.
Elena Barker and Ashley Barker were Scott Barker's sisters, while Cloe Barker was Scott Barker's niece.
