Texas Senate Committee Discussing Drug-Testing-For-Unemployment Bill

If the measure were to pass, all recipients of unemployment benefits would have to pass a drug test to get unemployment benefits.
Supporters of the plan say that it would ensure that people on unemployment are drug-free and ready to work.
Opponents of the bill say that it creates further bureaucracy and escalating costs.
Several similar measures that would require drug testing for other welfare benefits are also being considered.
Several other states -- including Florida -- have passed drug testing laws in connection with welfare and unemployment.
