The Midland City Council will consider buying the old Midland County Courthouse (located along Wall Street in downtown Midland) from Midland County during a special meeting on March 18th.
Midland County commissioners will also consider the proposed purchase and transfer of the site and property in an upcoming special meeting.
The old Midland County Courthouse -- which was built in 1930 -- has sat vacant since 2010, when a larger courthouse opened near the intersection of Lorraine Street and Tennessee Avenue.
If the City of Midland buys the old Midland County Courthouse, they'll enter into a development agreement with Energy Related Properties to tear down the building and add a mixed-use high rise building in the same location.
The proposed new building would include a five-star hotel, class a office space, retail space, residential space and an entertainment center.
The plan for the future of the old Midland County Courthouse could anchor ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Midland.
