Fort Stockton City Council members are expected to consider an interlocal agreement with Odessa to fund a monitor well in southwest Pecos County.
Fort Stockton City Manager Raul Rodriguez tells Big 2 that the issue will be discussed at a meeting on March 18th.
Fort Stockton is looking to work with Odessa, after attempts at coming to a $3 million interlocal agreement with Pecos County for the monitor well and a test well stalled.
The $680,000 monitor well -- which would be drilled about 10 miles southwest of Fort Stockton -- would reach the Capitan Reef Aquifer.
The Capitan Reef Aquifer could soon become a water source for both Odessa and Fort Stockton.
If the water from the aquifer can be made potable, Odessa plans on upgrading Fort Stockton's water treatment plant and building a pipeline to bring the water to Ector County.
