MARATHON -- Marathon I.S.D. is on the road to recovery after some hard financial times.

The future of the district has been in question in recent years, after large budget deficits caught the Texas Education Agency's attention.

Former Marathon I.S.D. business manager Fred Stair was indicted in April 2012 for allegedly bilking the district out of $405,000 over a 3-year period (between 2008 and 2011).

The district worked hard to cut costs, and they even reduced their faculty and staff significantly.

Now, Marathon I.S.D. has seen two straight years of budget surpluses.

Those surpluses come at a price, though.

According to The Fort Stockton Pioneer, high school teachers currently have to teach 6 different levels at Marathon I.S.D.
