LAMESA -- The Lamesa City Council is one step closer to banning synthetic drugs within the city limits.

During the Tuesday night City Council meeting, a proposed ban passed the first reading.  The ban would make it illegal to possess or use synthetic or misbranded drugs within the Lamesa City Limits.

Towns across the country have been passing bans like this, making it easier to prosecute establishments that are selling the synthetic drugs.

Six out of seven council members were present for the meeting, and all of them voted in favor of the ban.

The final reading is expected to happen in early to mid-April.
