In April, gubernatorial Democratic candidate Bill White campaigned throughout the Basin. He spoke with juniors and seniors in a government at Midland High School.

“What are the things in government that a city does as its principal part of government," White asked the students in the classroom.

Although the students weren’t expecting a pop quiz, they jumped right in.

“They handle voting," said one student.

The former Houston mayor wants to improve education for all students in Texas. So they're prepared for the competitive world economy, able to land good jobs. He told Big 2 Texas needs to treat dropouts as an emergency.

“We know there about 1.1 million students who didn't complete their high school classes within four years," he said.

He also wants to make college affordable for anyone that wants to go.

“We need to make it easier for people to go on to 2, 4, year schools," White explained.
