Homicide

A homicide investigation is underway, after a Midland man was shot and killed at home in the 3600 block of Thomason. Weldon Maurice Cooks, 28, was rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday night with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He underwent emergency surgery and later died. His death is the first murder of the year in the Tall City.

MPD Sgt. Garcia said the victim's family and witnesses weren't cooperating with them.

“The witnesses that had been at the scene weren't exactly forthcoming with information. It was really hard to solicit information from them," said Garcia.” It’s puzzling because normally when a family member is hurt they want to get whoever did it caught.

Police are also going through forensic evidence and waiting for the autopsy results to come back. They hope those things will get them a step closer to cracking this case.

Police are asking anyone that may have information on this crime to call them at 432.685.7108.
