Midland police have charged a Midland man with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. According to police, Jeffery Riley, 24, had to much to drink on Saturday night and assaulted his wife with a shotgun.

"The wife of Jeffery Riley was on the phone talking with a friend when he walked into the room carrying a shotgun," said MPD Sgt. David Garcia.

Riley's wife told her friend what was happening. The friend called police. Meanwhile, the wife managed to get out of the house.

"The supervisor on the scene decided that it would be best to call out the SWAT team and negotiators;since we had an individual in the house with a weapon," explained Garcia.

Negotiators did everything they could to get in touch with Riley, but were unable to get a hold of him. SWAT team members stormed in and found him asleep on his bed. Police also confiscated several weapons they found inside the home.
