The Midland SPCA tells Big 2 animal cruelty is something they see quite often. The shelter said at least two pets are dropped off each week. Today a Midlander brought in an abused Cocker Spaniel mix to the shelter.

"She is in pretty bad condition, she’s probably got tick fever, she's real anemic you can tell that by the color of her gums," said Dorothy Reed, a staff member at the Midland SPCA.

The abused dog was found in an alley this morning. Her name and who abused her are unknown. Reed believes the dog was abused for at least 6 months.

"We're going to do the best we can to take care of her, and get her all cleaned up and get these ticks off of her, and try to get her some medical attention and maybe get her a good home," she said.

Reed said finding a home for an abused animal is much more difficult because of the medical expenses.

The Cock Spaniel mix is expected to make it. Right now the shelter is completely full. Help rescue an abandoned animal by going to the
