Some people tell Big 2 News finding a spot to park at Midland Memorial Hospital is becoming a big hassle and the ongoing construction is behind it.
The hospital said they're doing everything they can to address the parking problems. They're offering all their visitors free valet and security at the hospital is helping families move their vehicles. But some tell Big 2 News it isn't enough.

"I think it's very awful, it's horrible," said Tiffani Newsom, a visitor at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Newsom is frustrated with the parking situation at the hospital.

"Yesterday it was awful. We drove around for 15 mintues trying to find a parking space. Today was a little bit easier, but still I had to walk a good ways," Newsom explained.

Russell Meyers, the hospital's president is fully aware of the inconvenience patients and visitors are facing.

"It is very difficult to find a parking space." said Meyers.

That's why they're offering free valet to anyone that needs to come to the hospital. This way patients or visitors don't have to worry about taking the time to find a parking space;they can simply hand over their keys, and go inside.

Also, keeping the ER entrance clear of vehicles has also become some what of a challenge for the hospital. A lot of construction is taking place in that section of the hospital, and when patients are dropped off their drivers tend to park outside for an extended period of time.

"If we get to many vehicles in there and then the ambulances have trouble dropping off patients and also if an emergency does happen then we have to have that access immediately," said David Hickman, the spokesmen for the Midland Fire Department.

The hospital is working with the fire department to reduce the congestion and remind folks if you park illegally you could get a $500 ticket.

"The hospital security has done a very very good job in monitoring that, but sometimes we have to go down there and remind people not to park there," said Hickman.

Meyers said when their new 800 -space garage opens it will permanently fix their parking issues. The garage is expected to open by the end of this year.
