Congressman Mike Conaway held a town hall meeting tonight at UTPB’s CEED Building. But this one was a little different than what Basin residents might expect. It's part of a Republican initiative called the America Speaking Out Project. The initiative is a way Republicans are trying to reconnect with voters before the November elections begin. They’ve created an agenda based on issues their constituents would like for them to improve. Here are the 5 broad areas they’re focusing on: Lowering healthcare, cutting spending, government reform, job creation, and national security.

"The United States is unsustainable how we are going right now," said one woman, who attended the town hall meeting.

America Speaking Out gives the public a chance to sound off about the issues they find most pressing and express their concerns.

"How do we know that y’all are going cut spending across the board and not just redistribute from the programs that aren't your favorites and give them to the programs you like," said another concerned citizen at the public forum.

Congressman Conaway knows Americans are frustrated with the massive amounts of spending going on in Washington.

“I pay attention to what's going on ,” said Conaway.

That’s why he and other Republicans have come up an agenda, containing the issues Americans are concerned about. Conaway tells Big 2 Republicans pledge to make the improvements their constituents’ want, if their party is elected to run the house in November.
