Officers with both police departments will be paying closer attention this week, looking for anyone speeding or talking on their cell phones. Anyone caught could face up to a $200 fine.
According to M.P.D. records, fast drivers account for the highest number of offenders in school zones. In 2009, more than 900 drivers got a ticket for speeding through one of these zones, but only three were cited for talking on their phones.
