The council held a hearing where four people got a chance to ask the county to look at cuts instead of increases. The rate was going to come in lower than the current one, but the typical homeowner would still see an increase of about fifteen dollars.
The speakers, who are associated with local tea parties, said that the proposed changes send a bad message to the taxpayers.
"They are literally asking us to do with less this year so they can have more," Jason Moore told Big 2. "You cannot represent a people when you're not willing to do the things you're asking them to do."
The county also made about $700,000 in cuts at the meeting, including a 3-2 vote to eliminate the Public Works Director position. Because of this, some department heads would now have to speak directly to commissioners.
