Fewer Car Accidents in U.S./Texas

There have been a lot of car accidents in the Permian Basin lately. But nationwide, the numbers are actually dropping.
The Transportation Department has announced that the number of people dying on American highways is the lowest its been since 1950. Texas was also one of the states that saw the biggest drop in fatal accidents, down more than 400 from 2008 numbers.
Traffic deaths have traditionally dropped during economic downturns, as fewer people are driving because of higher unemployment and less vacation travel. However, improvements in air bags, seat belt laws, and drunk driving enforcement have also played a major role.
