For the first time ever, Habitat for Humanity volunteers in the Tall City are putting down their tools, and picking up their sneakers. On Saturday, the organization plans on hosting its Habitat Home Run (5k, 10k, and half-marathon run). All the money raised at the event will go toward building a new home for a family in the community.

“The 5k is $15, the 10k is $20 and the half -marathon is $45; the half- marathon will start at 9a.m. and the 5k and 10k will start at 10a.m.,"said Renae Ludrick, the event’s coordinator.

In July, Kimberly Turner and her daughters were one of the lucky families to get a Habitat home.

"I feel entirely blessed," said Turner. “I lived between two drug dealers.”

The Turners were also living in deplorable conditions.

"We had mice and we had a two bedroom with five girls, one bathroom, very small that you couldn't even get to the sink without shutting the door," said Turner.

A home Habitat volunteers build costs about 52,000. So all the money they raise can go a long way.

"It really is a chance to change somebody’s life,” said Ludrick.
