The unemployment numbers for August are out. And while the news for the Lone Star State isn't good, things are better in the Permian Basin.
The State of Texas saw an increase in unemployment claims when compared to July, heading up to 8.3 percent. Most of this increase was due to a drop in government jobs, particularly census workers who have finished their service.
In the Permian Basin, things are still improving. Midland still has the lowest unemployment in the state, and it's getting better, dropping to 5.6 percent.
Odessa is also seeing the situation improving with unemployment now at 8.1 percent, which is below the state average
