Local college enrollment typically goes up when the economy is down.
So considering the Permian Basin has some of the best unemployment numbers in state, it comes as quite a surprise to hear that U.T.P.B. is reporting record enrollment this semester.
With over 4100 students taking classes this fall, the university is up sixteen percent compared to this time last year.
University president Dr. David Watts says the Falcon Promise Program - which gives qualifying students up to 4 years of free tuition - has played a major role in the increase.
