Being a firefighter means more than just fighting fires. It also means helping people in emergency situations.
Those situations are constantly changing, and firefighters need more and more training to keep up with it. Now, the Midland Fire Department is getting more than $10,000 in state grant money to help fund that training. Other departments will be using money they get differently.
"That means they can be used for supplies if you need to, training. Some of the departments can use them for fuel for ambulances and tires for ambulances," Midland Fire Department's Assistant Fire Chief Chip Balzer told Big 2.
Midland has received the money on a yearly basis, but say that could change in the future depending on the state budget.
