Camp Mabry, Austin, Texas (21 Oct, 2010) –   The Texas National Guard confirms that one of its Soldiers died Wednesday as a result of gunshot wounds.

PFC Jose Gil Hernandez, 22-years old,  Fire Direction Sensor Specialist, assigned to   Headquarters Battery 3rd Battalion,  133 Field Artillery, and resident of El Paso, was killed Wednesday  in Juarez Cuidad, Mexico.  The Soldier joined the Texas Army National Guard on 15 November, 2007.

The Texas National Guard family has lost a friend and fellow Soldier and he will be missed, but more importantly the Soldier’s family mourns the loss of a loved one.    At this time there is no more important and honored duty than to surround the family with our love, and support them through this very difficult time.

The Soldier was a Citizen Soldier, attending school during the week, while reporting for duty with his unit during drill weekends and annual training.

The circumstance of the Soldier’s death is currently under investigation.
