Buying a costume for your little trick or treater is no easy task.
Especially when its a girl between the ages of 10 and 15.
And it seems year after year the costume selection gets more mature than some parents are comfortable with.
Whats on store shelves this Halloween season for tweens, looks more like something right out of a music video.
With more than 30 million kids trick or treating in the united states you'll notice that the costume selection for tweens has gotten more revealing.
And mothers in midland are not happy about it.
"We are pretty busy...girls always pick different things here and there from princess and brides...whatever appeals to them at a given time," said Raul Gutirrez the manager of Target in Odessa.
And what tweens are buying is not something this mom approves of.
"I saw some very interesting costumes for teens tweens, me as an adult wouldn't wear them," said Lori Stromberg the President of the Moms Club in Midland.
And Stromberg is making sure her daughter does not wear them either.
"I wouldn't want her to be in an uncomfortable situation...drawing the eyes of people that maybe i don't want her drawing the eyes of," said Stromberg.
But what i noticed is that parents are buying the costumes with the longer slits and the shorter skirts.
In fact, there was only one devil costume left.
But dozens of Princess Leia costumes that are a little more modest.
"I would definitely not let my 9-10 year old pick that type of costume and its definitely shocking to hear that parents would let their kids wear those things," said Stromberg.
"It would be nice if they would give more options. I'm glad that they do have some but i felt like it was very limited and probably things girls necessarily wouldn't want to be," said Stromberg.
But if parents are going to buy the costumes anyway, Stromberg has some advice,
"Still have the princess costumes, but add a little more material to it. I think when they watch Miley Cyrus, they want to wear what their wearing, so if there wearing tiny little shirts, they absolutely want to wear those types of things. I think its important that we teach them," said Stromberg.
Stromberg said that if moms need any advice on how to handle Halloween shopping with their tweens you can join the new moms club in Midland.
She also said its important for parents to stand their ground while shopping and set a good example for their children.
