AUSTIN -- Rick Perry will get to serve another term as Texas governor.
The Republican incumbent, who has been in office since 2000, defeated Democratic challenger Bill White handily. Perry got 55 percent of the vote while White received 42 percent. Kathie Glass received 2 percent of the vote.
White, the former Houston mayor, had hoped to be the first Democratic governor in Texas since 1995, but he came up short.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst won another term in a landslide. Dewhurst got 62 percent of the vote, while Linda Chavez-Thompson got 35 percent. Scott Jameson got 2 percent of that vote, while Herb Gonzales got 1 percent.
