MIDLAND -- It may have looked like some horseplay was going on at Midland High Friday morning, but it was actually part of a school project.
Some physics students were taking part in a "punkin chunkin" project. And it was exactly what the name suggests.
"Our students are taking an engineering problem and finding a solution," Midland High teacher Cory Callaway told Big 2. "The problem here is how can you launch a projectile a given distance using nothing but mechanical energy."
The students actually built their own catapults, which use a counter-weight mechanism to convert gravitational potential energy into mechanical energy.
