Residents in some East Odessa neighborhoods are keeping there cats inside tonight.
In the last two months, twelve cats have been found mutilated across a very small area.
And it has some people concerned, not only for there pets safety, but for there own.
Animal control in Odessa believes these brutal killings are being done by the same person.
This is because the cats are found with the same type of straight cut on their bodies.
And these murders are making residents in some East Odessa areas fearing that they could be targeted next.
Cats are being found bloodless and mutilated.
"We got twelve cats that have been mutilated in the last 2 and a 1/2 months on the east side of Odessa," Officer Sewell of Odessa Animal Control.
And one resident in that area is so afraid they refused to talk on camera.
This resdient found their cat on a neighbors lawn.
It looked like it was sleeping peacefully because there was no sign of ripped skin or blood anywhere.
There was only one straght incision where the insides were taken out.
And whats even stranger is the cat was not stiff.
M,eaning that the killer must have stolen the cat and returned it within a couple of hours, in broad daylight.
But most of these murders are happening to strays.
"Nobody came forward and said it was there cat or anything," said Sewell.
And the resident believes no one has come forward because they don't know what happened to their cat.
This person said that many people in the area say their cats just vanished.
And even if it were their cats it would be hard to identify because sometimes Animal Control does not find the whole body.
"We find heads, legs, tails, in different parts of the city," said Sewell.
And animal control will continue to investigate and hopes more information will unfold.
"Its hard to find out who is doing it but were looking into it. If anybody has any concerns or anything they can call us at the shelter at PD," said Sewell.
These killings are happening in the areas of Preston Oaks, Grandview, and Parkway which are only miles apart from one another.
Animal Control suggests you keep your cat indoors more often until they have more information.
