IRAAN -- Crews are working to plug a blown out well near Iraan, after dangerous H2S gases leaked from the oil well and threatened the nearby area.
Law enforcement officials in Iraan tells Big 2 News that the leak has been going on since early Monday morning. Gases leaked from the Yates Oilfield after a pipe broke southwest of Iraan.
DPS had to briefly close down the intersection at TX 349 and U.S. 190 Tuesday night because of the gases. Crews are pumping water into the pipes in an attempt to kill the gas and contain the leak.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the leak, but H2S gases can be deadly.
