AUSTIN -- A bill has been filed with the Texas Legislature focusing on veterans and taxes.
State Senator Carlos Uresti has filed a bill that would fix a provision in the law that grants property tax exemptions to disabled veterans. Uresti says some appraisal districts have misinterpreted it, allowing the exemption to stay with the homestead if a veteran sells it, instead of moving with that veteran. The clarification would fix that move.
The original provision was voted on in 2007, and was supported by more than 85 percent of Texas voters.
