ODESSA -- A junior high student in Odessa is facing assault charges after hitting a football coach during a fight.
The incident happened at Hood Junior High in Odessa Tuesday morning. The eighth grader jumped into a fight between his younger brother and another student.
Coach Kyle Hubbard was trying to break up the fight when the teenager hit the coach in the mouth. Hubbard needed five stitches to close up a cut he got from that hit.
The student was taken to the Ector County Youth Center and was later released. He's charged with assault causing bodily injury, which is a misdemeanor. He could also face disciplinary action from the school.
