ODESSA -- What started out as a trash fire turned into something far more dangerous Tuesday afternoon, after the flames escaped the pit.
The fire broke out along North West County Road in Odessa around 4:30 PM Tuesday. Firefighters say the fire started after people illegally dumped their garbage. The blaze soon broke out of the pit it was in and started heading towards some nearby homes. Firefighters managed to get the fire under control before it reached those homes.
It took a few hours before firefighters were able to put it the blaze completely.
