MIDLAND -- The holidays are generally a time for giving, but some people in the basin have been doing just the opposite.
Home burglaries are up in Midland for the month of November. Midland Police Deputy Chief Jeff Darr tells Big 2 that there have been at least 20 burglaries a week for the past four weeks. Up until November, burglaries had actually been down compared to last year's numbers in the Tall City. M.P.D. says there's been a lot of activity in Northwest Midland where suspects break into unlocked cars, and then open home garages with the car remote.
These garage burglaries have usually happened late at night, and the suspects have taken valuable items from the insides of vehicles, including firearms. M.P.D. says people should make sure their cars are locked and secure garage door openers to prevent this activity.
