ODESSA -- A murder trial in Ector County is taking longer than expected after the defendant was found incompetent to stand trial.
According to reports, 32 year-old Rickey Lavell Taylor refused to leave his cell to consult with his attorney, which in turn, forced his attorney to withdrawal from the trial. As a result, Taylor's competency hearing had to be canclled.
Taylor is accused of murdering Johnny Lee Mackey in February 2009. He was arrested in Dallas and later sentenced to 30 years in Ellis County for evading arrest. Taylor was transferred to Ector County in May.
The presiding district judge won't let Taylor represent himself, so a new attorney was assigned to the case.
