Precautions for Frying a Turkey

"The thing we have seen here in the past are people cooking turkeys inside a garage," Midland Fire Chief Jeff Meiner told Big 2. "We discourage [this act], that you need to be at least 10 feet away from your house. Not under the carport, not underneath the eaves of your home. If you're going to do it, just use caution and be very, very careful."
Meiner also says that the turkey needs to be completely thawed before they're placed in the fryer. If they're still frozen, it'll cause the grease to react, which could result in a fire and severe burns.
