AUSTIN -- Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was convicted of money laundering and conspiracy Wednesday.
The charges stem from DeLay's fundraising efforts for Republican candidates in the 2002 elections.DeLay was the House Majority Leader during George W. Bush's presidency.
During the trial, DeLay told the media that the prosecution had no factual evidence to convict him. But, the jury clearly didn't agree with his view.
"It is what it is, and we will carry on," DeLay said. "And maybe we can get it before people that understand the law."
DeLay faces five to 99 years in prison, but he plans to appeal.
