Governor Rick Perry is in the middle of a book tour, and Monday he was right here in the tall city. The name of the book is Fed Up, a direct reference to being fed up with some of the decisions being made in Washington. Perry was greeted by dozens of people at the Midland Hastings on Monday, and before signing copies of his book...he took time to share his thoughts with the crowd.
"This is a fun deal. I've introduced the governor many of times and told all these things he did government-wise. I have no idea if he's a good writer or if he can spell, so we're going to find out that in a minute," Tom Craddick, former Speaker of the House, joked.
Craddick gave a lighthearted introduction for the governor as he stopped in Midland to promote his new book. But before signing copies of it, Perry got down to business.
"We have a lot of things in common and the most pressing is our frustration with Washington D.C. and that power structure that is absolutely out of touch and just a little more than out of control. Fortunately we still vote," Perry said.
And election day was certainly a great day for Perry, having just begun his third term as governor. He says the problems in Washington aren't new. They've been happening for a long time, but he thinks his book will create change.
"Hopefully this book will fire up the dialogue, will convince Washington to take a Texas-style approach. I happen to believe that whether you live in California or you're the United States of America, the principles in the book will work," Perry said.
He says the problem is not too little government. The problem is too much government.
"They're spending money we don't have on programs we don't want, and we need leaders that will stand up and go to Washington and respect the 10th Amendment and allow for that process to come back to the states where the states are the laboratory of innovation. That is what Fed Up is really all about," Perry said.
When given the opportunity, Big 2 asked Perry if he plans to run for president. And although it might disappoint some people...his answer was no.
“I have got a great job. I have said consistently that this is the best job that I desire, and we're making a difference in the state of Texas," Perry said.
His new book is available at Hastings, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.com.
