Renovated Odessa Playground Reopens

ODESSA -- The city of Odessa has a special gift for local kids this Christmas.
After a year of renovations, Prairie Pete Playland at Sherwood Park is finally ready for play. This is the first major renovation to Prairie Pete Playland since it was developed in 1954, and it included a new Prairie Pete statue.
The original statue was repaired several times, but vandals finally destroyed it. Now, a restored statue looks over a fully A.D.A.-compliant playground.
"This is about a million dollar playground we have going, Odessa Parks and Recreation Director Steve Patton told Big 2. "It's been in the construction phase for a year now, and we are complete. It's ready to go."
The city also recently broke ground on new playgrounds at Murry H. Fly Park on Boulder and Western Manor on 23rd Street.
Odessa residents can help with future renovations by donating an extra dollar when they pay their monthly utility bill.
