Recruiting Income Tax Volunteers

The Permian Basin Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Coalition is seeking volunteers to help low-income individuals and families prepare simple federal tax returns at area VITA sites. The VITA program assists people in the Permian Basin with incomes of $49,000 or less who cannot complete basic tax forms themselves or afford to pay a preparer.

  • Previous accounting experience not necessary!

  • Free training provided.

Training sessions will be held January 7th and 8th in Midland and January 18th through 22nd in Odessa. Volunteering is convenient with 5 different locations to choose from in Midland and Odessa. A desire to help others is all that is required. Volunteers are trained using Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax materials. Call Casa de Amigos at (432) 682-9701 to sign up for a Midland Location or call Odessa Affordable Housing at (432) 272-4412 to sign up for an Odessa Location.

Last year, nearly 750 tax forms were prepared at Casa de Amigos alone and over 1 Million Dollars was returned to the community. For more information, contact Anita Green, (432) 682-9701, or email her at agreen@casadeamigosmidland.org. Green serves as Financial Literacy Specialist at Casa de Amigos of Midland.
