Domestic Violence Higher In Bad Economy

MIDLAND -- According to a recent Allstate Foundation survey, a bad economy can lead to to an increase in domestic violence.
The survey says that services at domestic violence programs across Texas have increased in the past three years, and that calls for help are expected to rise after the new year. Three quarters of the programs surveyed expect a spike in services throughout the holidays or just afterward. Most say the economy is a major cause of this trend.
The Allstate Foundation has given domestic violence victims some tips for getting help. They suggest victims contact a domestic violence program in their area, learn about community resources such as shelters and emergency assistance, monitor credit reports, open a post office box in their name and change banking or e-mail passwords or pins.
